A brief look at some of the refined variations of the alternate logotype composition, prior to colour scheme selection - a logo needs to work in greyscale first before adding any colour.

Bubble Buddies

In 2020, I was asked to create a logo for Bubble Buddies, a new dog grooming business based on the Mornington Peninsula, Australia. With 8 years of experience as a veterinary nurse, Abbey decided to start up her own business and was in need of a logo to kick things off.

This was a fun project to work on as it allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and experiment with illustration and a more informal, playful style of lettering instead of the elegant, structured cursive lettering that I most commonly design.

Whilst researching the brand identities of competitors in the dog grooming industry, I found that the majority of businesses featured cheesy, cartoonish dogs in a bathtub. Abbey had suggested including two dogs - one big and one small - in a hydrobath as this is one of Bubble Buddies’ main services. I wanted to steer away from making the logo just another cartoon-styled design, so I recommended going with a slightly more mature look for the logomark as I knew the lettering would be enough to give off a fun and friendly appearance; having a cartoon illustration alongside playful lettering for the logo could potentially come across as childish and unprofessional.

During the initial concepts stage, I explored various hand-drawn font styles and iterations of a minimalistic logomark to accompany the lettering, ultimately deciding on a smooth custom-made font with a wavy, ripple effect to resemble water. From as early as the brainstorming stage, I knew this logo was going to warrant a soft and calm colour palette instead of striking and vibrant colours - again, I rarely use pastel shades of colour so it was cool to dive deeper into the vast selection of Pantone colours.
